Ian Michael Schwartz, b. 1984

Ian Schwartz is a Brooklyn born, raised and educated visual artist and arts facilitator. He completed his undergraduate studies in Judaic Studies and Studio Art at Brooklyn College. He then continued to study at the Educational Alliance Art School on the Lower East Side, and Brick House Ceramic Art Center in Long Island City.

In 2009 Ian took a membership in the open studio space at Brooklyn Artists Gym in the industrial neighborhood, Gowanus. Reflecting the changing skyline of his surroundings, he began to work on a portfolio of abstract-geometric cityscape representations which began as acrylic paintings that evolved to incorporate the found objects that he would collect on his walks. After 5 years of creating, Ian pursued his MFA at Pratt Institute, where he experimented using these architectural related patterns from his found objects as stamps and stencils within large scale watercolor paintings, and also in the creation of ceramic tiles.

From 2017-2019 Ian relocated to Easton, Pennsylvania to work as an assistant in artist Shalom Neuman’s studio, and at Neuman’s International Fusionism (IF) Museum, which had relocated from NYC. Ian has since worked with many artists to facilitate their individual studio practices and exhibition installations.
